At the end of October, I was lucky enough to travel to Melbourne, Australia for the Engagement Institute’s Annual Conference. This event brings together engagement practitioners, community development professionals, communicators and academics to connect, learn, share and reflect on the evolving practice of engagement.
This year’s theme, Engage. Influence. Inspire., couldn’t have been more fitting. Across the two days, I was blown away by the energy in the room. The keynote speakers and panel members were not only inspiring but also deeply thought-provoking, encouraging us to see engagement in a broader and more human context.
As a first-time attendee, I met so many passionate practitioners who all shared a common goal: to build trust and transparency into every engagement process and ensure communities feel safe to be heard.

One key reflection that stood out for me was around technology. As digital tools continue to advance, it was reassuring to hear a shared belief that face-to-face consultation, and the genuine human connection that comes with it, will always have a place. AI may support the process, but it cannot replace empathy and conversation.
At Delib, we are committed to helping the public sector reach more people, strengthen trust and transform citizen engagement through next-generation digital tools. Being at the conference was a reminder of what truly matters: connection, inclusion and purpose, and how we can continue to support organisations to reach that next level of engagement.
